What We Do
Independent Living Home
When kids “age out” of the foster care system at the age of 18, they are handed a check as they exit the foster care system. Unfortunately, many of these young men will have no support system, no one to mentor them, no one to help them reach their educational or career goals. They will receive a check, and their freedom. That’s it. But freedom to do what? Grace Landing fills in the gaps by giving these kids not only a roof over their heads, but also guidance during this transitional stage of life.
On January 1st, Grace Landing received its license to become a Child Placing Agency. We recruit foster families, license homes and provide support when families need it. Currently in Osceola and Orange Counties there is less than one bed for every two foster children. This is a modern day orphan crisis.
Paddle to Independence
Grace Landing has seen the grim statistics and the research on children aging out of foster care. We established a program that we believe will be part of the solution to this crisis. Kicking off with a 3 day canoe trip down the Kissimmee River, over the next year, the boys and their mentors will meet monthly to work on educational and career goals, as well as life skills.
