If you are familiar with Grace Landing, then you are familiar with our Independent Living home for young men. You may also be aware during the summer of 2015, we opened a residential group home for young men currently in foster care. With the start of the new year, we start a new program at Grace Landing. As this year began, we kicked off a program working with homeless young women. We are very excited about this program and have already seen the ways God is working in laying the ground work to make this something special that will touch the lives of the young women we serve and the families who serve them.
Rather than have an independent living home for the young women, we have sought to build upon the partnerships we have with our local churches to raise up families and support networks from within them to serve young women in a way that hasn’t been tried in central Florida. We have recruited churches to identify families willing to have young women placed with their families in their homes. Along with the host family, Grace Landing is equipping and training a support network of volunteers within the church to come alongside the family and assist them in caring for the young women. Instead of the family being left alone to care for and meet the needs of the young woman placed in their home, we ensure they have a support network to provide for all the needs of the young women.
Over the years, we have found the better supported the family is the more likely it is they will be successful in being able to provide long term for the youth. Long term success is the end we have in mind, not for its own sake but for the sake of the young women. The more support we can provide to the young woman and to the family taking her in, the more opportunity we have to make a lasting impact on their lives.
God has blessed our prayer and planning as we have been orchestrating and putting all the pieces into place for months. As we kicked off our ‘Raising a Modern Day Princess” program, we had three churches who had prayerfully considered joining us to make this dream a reality. Those churches are First Christian Church of Kissimmee, The Vine Church and Freedom Life Church. Each of those churches have identified a volunteer leader to the point of contact for the family and the support team and their church. They have also identified at least one family willing to have a young woman placed with them. Each church has also begun to identify their support team. Grace Landing has also held the first of monthly training sessions we will provide each church and each family to ensure they are best equipped to serve the young women who God will send to us.
If you would like to speak with us or think you or your church are interested in partnering with Grace Landing to provide this new and exciting service to young women, please email or call Juda (407-470-6041).
