There are many exciting things going on around Grace Landing and the least of which is the addition of new staff. As December 2015 began to draw to a close, we concluded our search for new houseparents to come in live in our Residential Group Care Home. In the short time our first houseparent s were with us, we learned a great deal about what we hoped our next houseparents would be like.
As we searched for who would be the next staff to join the team at Grace Landing, we realized we wanted to ensure the next staff felt a strong call to ministry. We wanted to ensure our next staff, would know and understand the calling that working with foster youth is. During our search, one couple rose to the top of our list of potential houseparents. Kelly and Sheila Gowen sent us their resumes after concluding decades of ministry in local churches.
Kelly and Sheila have served God in youth ministry and in preaching ministry. They have served God in a variety of church settings and in a variety of ministry settings. As we began to talk with them and see where God may be in this process, we came to realize their hearts for serving God are huge. Throughout all their experiences, one thing has remained constant – they love God and they love serving his people.
At Grace Landing, there are many pieces to the puzzle that is serving foster youth in central Florida… but underneath all of it is service. Service to the youth the rest of society has forgotten, but God hasn’t forgotten them. We spend lots of hours thinking through programming and life skills and case plans and tons of other ‘things’, but the bottom line, most important thing is our relationships with the young men we serve.
Kelly and Sheila understand this. They understand this, because they understand the call to ministry. As they have come on staff at Grace Landing, we have gained great asset and increased our heart capacity to love the youth we serve.
Join us in welcoming Kelly and Sheila to our staff team at Grace Landing.
